What Parents Should Actually Check During a PG Visit — Beyond the Brochure

By Team Aspiro

Look Beyond the Brochure

A brochure and a guided tour are useful starting points. Parents can learn more by asking practical questions about everyday routines, maintenance, visitor rules and how concerns are handled.

Check 1: Arrange a Useful Visit

Arrange a visit during normal operating hours and ask whether a second visit around mealtime is possible. Respect the property’s visitor procedures and residents’ privacy; an unannounced late-evening visit may not be appropriate.

Check 2: Inspect the Room Offered

Ask to see the actual room offered or a comparable vacant room. Check storage, ventilation, fixtures and visible maintenance. Enter an occupied room only with the resident’s explicit permission; a resident’s privacy should take priority over a tour.

Check 3: Taste the Food at Mealtime

Ask to join a meal in progress — not a specially prepared tasting plate. Observe the temperature of the food, the cleanliness of the serving area, and the reaction of residents who are eating.

Check 4: Inspect the Washrooms Not on the Tour

Ask to inspect the washroom assigned to the room or an accessible shared facility with permission. Look for cleanliness, working fixtures, ventilation and signs of leaks without entering private resident areas.

Check 5: Read Every Line of the Resident Agreement

Before your daughter signs anything, read the Resident Agreement in full. Pay particular attention to deposit refund conditions, notice period, early vacating policy, and damage clauses.

Contact Aspiro Living to arrange a parent visit and confirm which rooms and facilities can be shown. Ask about meals, security procedures and the written agreement during the tour.

Conclusion: Trust What You Verify — Not What You Are Shown

Clear answers, documented terms and respectful access arrangements help families make an informed decision. Take time to clarify anything that remains uncertain.
